Browser-based markdown text-to-speech reader. Load .md files by URL, upload, paste, or drag-and-drop and listen with live sentence highlighting.
Facts last checked on 18 October 2026.
What it does
MDReader turns a markdown file into something you can listen to. Open a README, notes or docs file, press play, and the page reads it aloud sentence by sentence while highlighting where it is. Click any sentence to start reading from there. It is for developers, writers and students who want to hear long markdown instead of reading it on screen.

Requirements and limits
- Reading aloud uses your browser's built-in Web Speech voices: current Chrome, Edge and Safari work. Voice choice depends on your browser and operating system.
- Without speech support the page still renders the markdown and tells you to switch browser.
- Opening the page needs an internet connection. Files you upload or paste stay on your device.
- Remote .md links must be public and allow cross-origin reads. GitHub file and Gist links are converted to their raw form for you. A remote load gives up after 12 seconds.
- No account is needed to read or listen.
Restore Premium
Premium belongs to your Google account, not to one browser. To restore it on a new browser or device, sign in with the same Google account you paid with; MDReader checks your purchase and removes ads again. If the check cannot reach the server, the reader keeps working in free mode with ads.
What is new
- : this page now lists browser requirements, limits and how to restore Premium.
- : ads can be switched off for everyone from the hosted config, and if that config cannot load no ads are shown.
- : the privacy policy now states the minimum age and how children's data is handled.

FAQ
What is MDReader?
MDReader is a browser-based markdown text-to-speech reader. You can upload a .md file, paste text, drag and drop, or load a remote URL, and the page reads it aloud while highlighting the current sentence.
Is MDReader free?
Yes. All reader tools are free and run in your browser. Free usage may show ads.
What does Premium do?
MDReader Premium is a one-time purchase that removes ads. It does not unlock extra reader capabilities.
How much does Premium cost?
Premium is a one-time payment of ₹199 (India) or $4.99 (international).
Do I need an account?
No. Reading and listening works without an account. Sign in is only required to purchase or restore Premium.
Is my data tracked?
Files and text are processed locally in your browser. See the privacy policy for details.
Which browsers can read aloud?
MDReader reads aloud with your browser's built-in Web Speech voices, so it works in current Chrome, Edge and Safari. The voices you can pick come from your browser and operating system. If a browser has no speech support, MDReader still renders the markdown and says so on the page.
How do I restore Premium?
Sign in with the same Google account you paid with, on any browser. MDReader checks your purchase and removes ads again. There is nothing to renew because Premium is a one-time payment.
